When things don’t go our way it can be incredibly easy to lose control. To fall into an old habit of lashing out and perhaps getting angry or overwhelmed. The age old saying of “seeing red” when faced with a particularly triggering or provocative event can really highlight the importance of finding your calm. We can never make logical and clear decisions when we are in a state of defence. In order to properly understand and come to terms with where we are in the moment we need to ensure that we are existing in a position of clarity and awareness.
It can be so easy to pass on advice to “take a breath” and that will fix it all. But in reality we need to cultivate a feeling of calm that blankets our whole life, not just for moments of crisis. This looks different for everyone, it can be meditating in the morning, going for a run after work or even taking 10 minutes on your way to work to listen to your favourite music. Small routines that enable you to “fill your cup” and find fun, calm and peace.
Often when we feel our most overwhelmed it is simply a case of just removing ourselves and venting to a friend or even just a journal. Learning to appreciate that you’re not going to have it all together all the time, and also allowing yourself to take a moment is so integral to your mental health.
Let us know your methods for finding calm, we love learning from you all.
Much Love,
